2017 County Championships Press Release


Hundreds of swimmers from the 7 competitive affiliated Clubs throughout Northamptonshire will be taking part in the 2017 Northamptonshire Amateur Swimming Association (NASA) County Championships. This competition forms part of the nationwide series of County Championships to find the most promising young swimmers of the year. The Championships will feature individual sprint, middle and long distance events as well as team relay events. These events provide the opportunity for swimmers to gain qualification times for the 2017 Midland Regional and National Championships including Para Swimming Championships.

The Championships are being held for the eigth time at the Corby East Midlands International Pool using the pool in the 50m long course format for all events. Swimmers have had to achieve a qualifying standard to be able to participate in individual events. Clubs will also have the opportunity to enter relay teams for the 13/u and Open (any age) age groups.

This year, there are going to be 13 sessions of competition on the following dates which include heats and finals with the fastest 8 from heats contesting finals for each of the 6 age groups.

 Saturday 28rd January 2017 Sessions 1 & 2 Heats start 9.40am. Session 3 for FINALS start 6.10pm
Sunday 29th January 2017 Sessions 4 & 5 start at 9.40am. Session 6 for FINALS start at 6:10pm
Saturday 11th February 2017 Sessions 7 & 8 Heats start 9.40am. Session 9 for FINALS start at 6:10pm
Sunday 12h February 2017 Sessions 10 & 11 start at 9:40am. Session 12 for FINALS start at 6:10pm
Saturday 18th February 2017 Session 13 start time 5.40pm (800m and 1500m freestyle [HDW]
Para-Swimming multi-classification competition is also included. There are now a number of swimmers in the County with these classifications, including Ellie Robinson MBE of Northampton Swimming Club, Rio 2016 Paralympic Gold & Bronze medallist and BBC 2016 Young Sports Personality of the Year.

In addition to the swimmers, there will also be over 100 volunteer helpers involved in the Championships. This includes the mandatory qualified Licensed Technical officials who include Referees and Judges. Poolside ancillary staff including Club Coaches, chaperones, electronic timing operators and poolside event stewards will also be needed for each session. Trainee officials will also be offered the opportunity to be mentored by experienced Officials.

Admission to the Championships will be £3 per session or £5 per day.
